How do I renew an existing tenancy agreement?
I had a call from a landlord today who wasn’t sure how to go about renewing a tenancy agreement. His tenants have been in the property for a year and they want to remain on for a further fixed term.
What’s the easiest way to complete a renewal?
You can either complete a whole new tenancy agreement
OR
Renew the current agreement which simply means that as long as it abides with The RTA Section 13B which states the renewal has to be in writing and signed by both parties then you are good to go.
Here’s what we suggest you include in a tenancy agreement renewal.
- Address of property
- Tenants name
- Current tenancy start and finish date
- New tenancy start and finish date
- New rent amount (if you intend to increase the rent)
- Date the rent increase takes effect from
- Tenants signature
- Landlords signature
NOTE: Agreement must be signed by all parties that signed the original agreement.
